Charlie Mitchell is a master’s level therapist working towards full licensure as a Professional Counselor in Knoxville, TN. He is also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). His experience includes providing therapy to adults, adolescents, children, and families. Through individual, couples, and family therapy, he treats issues including addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, marital distress, and parent-teen conflict.

 

He seeks to match his approach to his client’s needs, utilizing emotionally focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems theories, and positive psychology approaches. Trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and Families, he is progressing towards full ICEEFT Certification. He is well-versed in the 12 steps and Christian integrative approaches, though the client’s values and beliefs are always held central. In his work, Charlie loves to dive deep while remaining focused on real life change. He works towards corrective experiences that promotes long lasting, attachment-based healing.

During his time at Emory University and the Goizueta Business School, Charlie discovered his own need for recovery and spiritual purpose, leading him to shift directions and pursue his passion in Counseling. Charlie earned his Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies with a minor in Psychology from the University of Tennessee, graduating Summa Cum Laude and presented with the Religious Studies Achievement Award. Because his blood runs Big Orange, he earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Tennessee as well, earning the program’s Most Outstanding Student Award.

Charlie is completing his post-graduate supervision under Joel Diambra, EdD, LPC-MHSP, ACS, NCC, Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee. Further, Charlie is receiving supplemental marriage, family, and couples focused supervision from Adam York, LMFT. Charlie has clinical experience in outpatient counseling, residential drug and alcohol counseling, and working in partnership with the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands, a federal Child Advocacy Center located in Scott County, where he cherished his time serving children and families struggling in home and at school, as well as victims of abuse and neglect.

Charlie was born and raised in East Tennessee, growing up in the beautiful historic City of Norris. He enjoys being the guinea pig of his wife’s cooking obsession, being walked by his three dogs, and restoring Norris homes built in the 1930s, seeking to meld the craftmanship of that era with the air-conditioning of today.
